Private Acting Coaching
Private coaching through OSF’s Arden Academy offers young artists a focused, generous space to grow—artistically, intellectually, and personally. Rooted in classical technique and contemporary practice, each session is shaped around the individual student: their goals, their questions, and their emerging sense of self.
Jen Riley (formerly Hughes) brings decades of experience as a theatre artist, director, and educator to her coaching practice. For 18 years, she taught and built theatre programs in secondary education, guiding students through acting, movement, voice, speech, and performance while mentoring them as whole humans. Her students have gone on to succeed in competitions, professional training programs, higher education, and the arts—but just as importantly, they have learned how to take risks, collaborate, and trust their own voices.
As a professional singer, actor, dancer, choreographer, and director, Jen’s coaching is deeply informed by lived experience in rehearsal rooms and onstage. She understands what it means to prepare rigorously, to face uncertainty, and to return to the work with curiosity and courage. Her approach blends clear structure with flexibility—honoring tradition and technique while remaining open to discovery and play.
Coaching sessions emphasize process over perfection. Students are encouraged to ask questions, make bold choices, and learn through doing. Whether working on audition material, Shakespeare and heightened text, scene work, or foundational skills, Jen works alongside students to develop clarity of thought, expressive freedom, and grounded confidence. Notes are specific, actionable, and rooted in respect for the student’s individuality.
Private coaching is ideal for students preparing for auditions or competitions, navigating a rehearsal process, or seeking deeper, more personalized training than a classroom setting can offer. It is also a place for students who are simply curious—who want to explore storytelling, language, and imagination in a supportive environment that values effort, focus, and joy.
At its heart, private coaching through OSF and Arden Academy is about helping young artists learn to take up space with intention—to speak boldly, listen deeply, and trust that their unique contribution matters. The work is disciplined, playful, and deeply human, reflecting the same values that guide Ogden Shakespeare Festival’s performances and educational programs.
